Freedom Plaza's entry to Pennsylvania Avenue. A site for festivals and events, the plaza was designed by Venturi, Rauch & Scott Brown in 1980 and displays Pierre L'Enfant's original plan for Washington in black and white stone. Around the edges of the map are inscriptions with quotes about the District from Walt Whitman and President Wilson, among others.
