The Reading Room in Boston Public Library features a majestic barrel vault equaling the length of the Copley Square facade; arched and grilled windows infuse the space with natural light. Designed in 1895 by architect Charles Follen McKim of Boston firm McKim, Mead and White, the National Historic Landmark combines historic interiors, architecturally signficant spaces and art with literature and books, setting a new standard for great civic architecture.
