Colonial

A historic theater in downtown Boston, the Colonial Theatre is the oldest continuously operating theater in New England. Since its first production of Ben Hur on its opening night of December 20, 1900, the theater has staged pieces from intimate dramas to elaborate musicals and hosts Broadway Across America touring productions.

Entertainers appearing here include the Marx Brothers, Katherine Hepburn, Laurence Olivier, and Ethel Barrymore. Architect Clarence Blackall, senior partner in the Boston firm of Blackall, Clapp and Whittemore, made many contributions to Boston's architecture--14 theaters and several other buildings.

106 Boylston Street, Theatre District.
