Ornamented with sculpture and constructed in the Art Nouveau style, Pont Alexandre III was inaugurated for the 1900 Paris Universal Exposition, as was the adjacent glass-domed Grand Palais exhibition hall. Built by engineers Résal and Alby, the metal-and-stone arch bridge aligns the Esplanade des Invalides across the Seine with the Champs-Élysées quarter to the north.
