Library of Congress

Built in the Italian Renaissance style, the Thomas Jefferson Building, Library of Congress, was designed by Washington architects John Smithmeyer and Paul Pelz based on the Paris Opera House. Completed in 1897, the Great Hall's elaborately decorated interior houses sculptures and paintings by more than 50 American artists.
