A walkway extending to the Bethesda Terrace at the north end, Olmsted and Vaux sited the Mall within Central Park as an "open air hall of reception."
The Mall's rows of American elms form majestic, arched vistas, part of a continuous promenade along the walks and lines of the park's drives.
