Mahayana Buddhist Temple

The largest Buddhist temple in Chinatown, near the entrance to the Manhattan Bridge, the Mahayana Buddhist Temple's interior features a golden, magnificent Buddha with blue neon halo, seated on a lotus, framed by light pagodas (cones of light). The temple serves as a community center, with people stopping by during the day to light incense, leave offerings and pray. Mahayana Buddhism is the primary form of Buddhism in China, Japan, Korea, Tibet, and Mongolia, and emphasizes enlightenment during a lifetime.
